Real Estate Postdoc at MIT
The MIT Center for Real Estate (MIT/CRE) has a postdoc opening to join a highly collaborative team of researchers focusing on all aspects of real estate and urban economics including housing, urban growth, commercial real estate finance, development, investment, housing affordability, sustainability, international and inter-urban migration, and new technologies. Seeking a highly motivated individual who possesses excellent research skills and strong interpersonal skills who can work independently and contribute as part of a multidisciplinary team. Individual must possess a high degree of self-direction.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform independent research in areas including Urban Economics, Housing, Real Estate Finance, the impact of immigration on local economies, and the interaction between markets and housing affordability.
- Publishing, presenting, and disseminating research to the global community.
- Collaborating with MIT/CRE professors in their research
- Working with private, industry and/or government research sponsors to apply for research grants.
- Help identify projects and write case studies in urban economics and real estate finance.
- Possibility to assist in teaching if interested
The postdoctoral associate will be expected devote about 66% of their time to Center-related duties (research and other activities), and the rest to their own research. This person will be able to acquire market-relevant research and teaching skills in urban economics and real estate. The candidate will also have the opportunity to be part of the vibrant research community at MIT, and to attend the institution’s research seminars.
Job Qualifications & Skills:
- A Ph.D. in Economics, Finance, and related fields (preferred). We can also consider applicants with Ph.Ds. in Statistics, Data Science, GIS, Operations, Engineering, or Applied Math if they demonstrate compatible research interests.
- Solid skills in data analytics, statistics, and econometrics
- Excellent writing and verbal communication.
- Proactive, optimistic approach to problem-solving, and time management.
- Ability to incubate and envision new, innovative research projects and successfully manage their implementation.
- Computer Skills: Statistical (as many as possible among): Stata, R, MATLAB, Python, ArcGIS10 or QGIS (or commitment to learn)
Supervision Received:
This individual will report directly to Albert Saiz, Daniel Rose Professor of Urban Economics and Real Estate at the MIT/CRE and the MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning.
The appointment is for two years with the possibility of extension to a third year highly likely but contingent on the interest of both parties and the availability of funding.
