CFP: Real Estate Economics Special Issue on Housing and Housing Policy

The editors of Real Estate Economics (REE) are pleased to announce a call for papers for a Special Issue on Housing and Housing Policy. Prof. Ingrid Ellen (NYU) has agreed to serve as guest editor. We welcome studies relating to all housing and housing policy issues, including but not limited to the following topics: affordability, housing supply, climate risk, neighborhood gentrification, urban inequality, housing justice, taxes, monetary and mortgage policies, transportation, the role of institutional investors and real estate intermediaries, etc.

While we expect that most of the papers accepted for publication in this Special Issue will be innovative, high-quality papers addressing specific research questions, we also welcome papers that provide a review of the literature. All submissions are expected to meet REE’s usual high standards for publication. Submissions are open until February 1, 2025.

The editors of REE are collaborating with the organizers of the AREUEA National Conference 2025 to provide a platform for presenting the work submitted to the Special Issue. To that end, the conference will feature a dual-submission option with REE. Dual-submitted papers will be reviewed for possible inclusion on the National Conference program and for possible publication at REE Special Issue. Authors submitting their work to the National Conference should indicate whether they wish to benefit from the dual-submission option to REE in the National Conference submission process.

Authors, whether they are submitting their papers to the National Conference or not, should submit papers for the Special Issue using the REE submission website and select “Special Issue on Housing and Housing Policy.” Papers will be entered into the review process as they are received. Papers are eligible for submission if they have not been previously rejected from REE and if they are not currently under review at another journal. Submissions to the Special Issue are “no fault.” That is, papers rejected from the Special Issue can still be submitted to REE under the normal submission process later without prejudice.
