Michael J. Seiler Behavioral Research Commendation

The American Real Estate Society (ARES) is pleased to announce the establishment of the Michael J. Seiler Behavioral Research Commendation, one of our organization’s most prestigious awards, created to attract and encourage top researchers from a wide array of disciplines to focus their research efforts towards expanding knowledge in the area of behavioral real estate.

“ARES is very excited to announce this award that will encourage and support behavioral real estate research, an increasingly important and growing field of scholarship. It is through this kind of opportunities that we can push research and create interests in emerging scholars on such topics,” said Vivek Sah, President of the American Real Estate Society and Director, Franklin L. Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management.

The winner of this esteemed award will participate in the annual ARES Spring meeting and will be honored alongside the winners of the other prestigious awards in real estate scholarship, such as the David Ricardo Medal, Richard Ratcliff Award, and Graaskamp Awards, at the annual luncheon.

“It is a great honor to serve as the namesake for this newly created distinguished award. I look forward to encouraging the continued expansion of the burgeoning field of behavioral real estate that I love so much and have poured the heft of my professional efforts into for so many decades,” said Seiler, the J. Edward Zollinger Endowed Chair Professor of Finance & Real Estate in the Raymond A. Mason School of Business at William & Mary.

Seiler served as ARES president in 2014-15, and is recognized as a prolific scholar in the real estate field.

Seiler Behavioral Research Commendation established in honor of a notable scholar whose contributions have profoundly shaped the field of behavioral real estate. At the Raymond A. Mason School of Business, we celebrate this recognition not only as a testament to Professor Seiler’s exceptional impact but also as a milestone for future researchers,” said Todd Mooradian, Dean of the Raymond A. Mason School of Business, adding that the award will inspire a new generation to explore and expand on behavioral real estate and thereby further the commitment to advancing knowledge and practice in this ever-changing area.”

The awardee will receive reimbursable expenses of up to $1,000 in travel and hotel accommodation.
