The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia is seeking applicants for a full-time, open professorial rank (Assistant, Associate or Full), faculty position in real estate. The position can be general faculty (non-tenure track) or tenure track, depending on the candidate’s qualifications. To be considered for a tenure-track position, the candidate should have a strong record publishing in top Finance and Economics outlets such as the Journal of Finance and the American Economic Review.

The position will commence with the Fall 2024 semester, and the faculty member is expected to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in real estate, as well as engage as the academic director of the White Ruffin Byron Center for Real Estate, which supports the University of Virginia’s growing pan-university real estate initiatives.

The individual hired will serve as the Academic Director of the Center for Real Estate. In this capacity, the faculty member will help shape the academic activities of the Center in close collaboration with the Center’s executive director. The individual will have the strong support of McIntire and UVA alumni, parents, and friends in the real estate industry to gather resources crucial for expanding a world-class real estate program and reinforce the School’s standing as one of the nation’s innovators in business education. The individual will work closely with the Center’s executive director and advancement teams across the university in cultivating relationships to support the continued growth of the Center.

Qualifications:
A PhD in business or real estate-related disciplines combined with significant experience in real estate investments or development is required. Previous experience as a faculty member at an AACSB accredited institution, evidence of excellence in teaching real estate or related courses, and demonstrated real estate thought leadership are preferred. The faculty member will be a member of the Finance Area within the McIntire School and have the opportunity to develop close working relationships with faculty in other schools across the University. To be considered for a tenure-track position, the candidate should have a strong record publishing in top Finance and Economics outlets such as the Journal of Finance and the American Economic Review.
