Background

The Institute of Real Estate and Urban Studies, (IREUS), is a research institute at National University of Singapore (NUS) that strives to advance global thought-leadership in real estate and urban studies through research that is multi-disciplinary, relevant and rigorous. IREUS is committed to undertaking high impact and cutting-edge real estate and urban economic research and leveraging on unique databases and institutions of Singapore in its research. It will work with industry partners to hasten industry transformation through the use of technologies and big data.

As a research institute centered in Singapore, it seeks to leverage its research to help reinforce Singapore’s position as a prominent regional base for the real estate industry, and also a sustainable and livable worldclass city. It will build a rich base of research expertise ranging from real estate, urban economics, business management, law, and public policies to advance the knowledge frontier pertaining to real estate and its interface with the larger economy. This knowledge base is also expected to create spill-over benefits to other real estate and urban communities in the region and globally.

Director

NUS seeks to hire an outstanding scholar with strong experience in academic-industry collaborations for appointment as director of IREUS, starting 1 November 2022, for an initial term of three years.

The director is appointed by the Deputy President (Research and Technology) and will work in consultation with the institute’s management board to provide leadership in the following areas:

  • To advance rigorous and high-impact research in multidisciplinary fields including economics, finance, real estate and urban development, demography, environmental sustainability and public policies;
  • To develop effective industry outreach programs for practitioners and academics to share cutting-edge knowledge and address challenges facing the real estate industry and policymakers in Singapore and beyond; and
  • To provide world-class education that fosters the next generation of real estate industry leaders and academics, and enhance collaborations with world-class universities and real estate institutions worldwide.

The director should be an internationally-recognized leader in his or her academic field and qualify for a professorship in a faculty or school within NUS. The appointment of director is a full-time position with generous support for research.
