Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

The Brookfield Centre has established a global leadership role for the Schulich School of Business School in the expanding and evolving fields of real estate and infrastructure, and the increasingly important intersections between them. Located in Toronto, Canada’s largest city, it supports an MBA specialization, a one-year Master of Real Estate and Infrastructure (MREI), the Tim and Frances Price Urban Lab focused on applied innovation-based research, and the Sustainable Infrastructure Fellowship Program (SIFP) held in partnership with a consortium of global institutional investors. Toronto is home to some of the largest real estate and infrastructure investment firms in the world, including many of Canada’s major pension funds that are leaders in global real asset investment.

A PhD (or a PhD near completion by the start of the appointment for the Assistant Professor level), is required, with a demonstrated record of, or potential for the junior position, excellence in research and in teaching real estate and/or infrastructure related courses. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in outstanding, innovative, and, as appropriate, externally funded research at the highest level. Research focus is broadly defined and should be in one or more of the following general areas: real estate and/or infrastructure finance, investment, development, asset and portfolio management; economic, financial and public policy applications in urban economics; sustainability, environmental, social, governance (ESG), social infrastructure and housing affordability – increasingly labeled “impact investing” - as they apply to the built environment; city growth dynamics and competitiveness; innovation and technology, especially as they relate to social and sustainable investment in cities of the future.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence or promise of research excellence of a recognized international calibre as demonstrated in: the research statement; a record of publications (or forthcoming publications) with significant journals in the field; presentations at major conferences; and strong recommendations from referees of high standing.

Preference will be given to those individuals specializing in impactful applied research, have strong industry engagement, proven ability to link theory and practice and a global perspective. We seek a candidate who will also contribute to and enhance the ecosystem of the Brookfield Centre not only in research and teaching but also along student outreach, alumni and industry partner-engagement dimensions.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate an understanding of the connections between real estate and infrastructure and who are capable of teaching courses in real estate – one or more of real estate finance & investment, real estate portfolio management or urban and real estate economics. Evidence of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching will be provided through the following: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference.

The successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision.
