The Office of Economic Affairs in HUD’s Office of Policy Development and Research is looking to hire two economists (new graduate or mid-career) to work in its Housing and Demographic Analysis and Housing Finance Analysis Divisions. Hires in both Divisions will have opportunities to contribute to policy development and pursue publication and participation in conferences.

The hire in the Housing and Demographic Analysis Division will be responsible for (1) research and analysis of housing market conditions, (2) research and assessment of housing occupied by American households, and (3) managing, overseeing, and initiating HUD-sponsored housing market surveys, including surveys conducted under interagency agreement between HUD and the U.S. Census Bureau (such as the American Housing Survey). Starting salary will range from $64,649 to $146,120 commensurate with education and experience. U.S. citizenship is required. We offer workplace flexibilities. The primary responsibility of the hire in the Housing Finance Analysis Division will be development and review of the leading-edge credit scoring algorithms deployed by the Federal Housing Administration for approval of mortgage insurance applications. This work will implicate fair lending and social equity matters. The hire will also have flexibility to pursue or oversee original applied research on topics in the Division’s mandate: single- and multi-family finance, homeownership, and the secondary mortgage market. Starting salary will range from $64,649 to $146,120 commensurate with education and experience. U.S. citizenship is required. We offer workplace flexibilities.
