Call for Papers | 2026 AREUEA National Conference

The 2026 AREUEA Mid-Year National Conference is scheduled to be held in-person at The Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C., Wednesday through Friday, May 27-29, 2026. The conference portal is now open for paper submissions.

The submission deadline is February 1, 2026, midnight EST. Membership is required prior to submission, and you must log in to the AREUEA Member page to access the submission link.

Regular Paper Submissions

In addition to the regular paper sessions, the conference will feature the following special events:

  • Data Panel: Bridging the Data Divide — Collaborative Pathways for Real Estate Research (covering both commercial and residential markets)
  • Housing Affordability Roundtable — Lessons from International Experience
Led by Joe Gyourko, featuring an interview with foreign housing policymakers and practitioners on international approaches to housing affordability
  • WREN (Women in Real Estate Network) Breakfast
  • Three dedicated Junior Scholar Sessions, and a Pipeline Scholars Roundtable Discussion on Education Choices and Careers in Real Estate and Urban Economics
  • Real Estate Economics special issue session
  • Policy Forum and Panel Discussions
  • Membership Reception
  • Quigley Medal Luncheon

Junior Scholars Program (JSP) Submissions

We also invite submissions to AREUEA's Junior Scholars Program (JSP), open to early-career scholars in urban economics or real estate who (1) graduated from 2022 or later, or (2) are Ph.D. students on the market. The program features dedicated sessions on the opening morning of the National Conference, where three to four junior scholars present in each session. Senior scholars serve as discussants and provide mentorship during the following year. We welcome papers on all real estate and urban economics topics, with preference given to completed papers and those authored by junior researchers without senior collaborators.

To apply:  Submit your paper through the National Conference submission portal by February 1, 2026, midnight EST. Select "JSP" as the submission type and complete the required short survey. While AREUEA membership is required for conference submissions, JSP applicants may request a membership fee waiver by emailing areuea@travelink.com.

For senior scholars: Those interested in serving as mentors should contact JSP chair Kyle Mangum at [email protected].

We look forward to receiving your submissions!
