AREUEA is seeking a qualified person to assume the position of Treasurer as of January 10, 2022.  The Treasurer performs the duties as described below, serves on the Executive Committee and reports to the Board of Directors of the Association (the “Board”).  This is a voluntary position and carries no honorarium.  The Treasurer is appointed for a five-year term by a majority vote of the Board of Directors and can be relieved by a majority vote of the Board of Directors. The Treasurer may serve a second consecutive term.

AREUEA Treasurer Duties

The Treasurer shall attend all the meetings of members and of the Board of Directors; have charge and custody of and be responsible for all funds and securities of the corporation; authorize all disbursements of AREUEA funds; be one of the officers who shall sign checks or drafts of the organization; provide semi-annual financial reports to the Board at scheduled meetings; arrange for the timely approval of the annual budget, and exercise budget and spending oversight; ensure for the proper and timely filing of all tax returns; consult the Finance Committee and Executive Committee, as necessary; render at stated periods as the Board of Directors shall determine a written account of the finances of the organization and perform all the duties incident to the office of Treasurer; provide information about AREUEA to potential sponsors and assist the Association management and Executive Director with sponsorship and membership renewal campaigns. The Treasurer works closely with AREUEA’s Executive Director (currently Travelink), the Executive Director’s Accounting Manager and staff.

Application Process

Interested applicants should submit a short proposal outlining any specific qualifications or experience and any past support for or participation in AREUEA activities. Our expectation is that the position will require on average no more than 10 to 15 hours per month. This position requires a commitment to collegiality, problem-solving, and the letter and spirit of AREUEA’s Code of Conduct.  The individual selected for the position will be asked to follow the vetting procedures described here, including filling out this form.

AREUEA was formed at the 1964 meeting of the Allied Social Science Association in Chicago.  AREUEA is a non-profit association dedicated to advancing the scope of knowledge in urban economics and real estate, and facilitating the exchange of information and opinions among academic, professional, government, and other interested parties.  AREUEA has published Real Estate Economics (REE) since 1973. Real Estate Economics is the oldest academic journal focusing on real estate topics and is considered the premier journal in its field.  Current membership stands at about 700.
