2011 Annual Conference

AREUEA’s Annual Meeting is held in January in conjunction with the meetings of the Allied Social Science Associations. AREUEA organizes twenty-three sessions during the three day conference, in which selected participants report on research in progress or recently completed. Additionally, AREUEA hosts a Doctoral Session which invited distinguished scholars share their insights and wisdom with students on topics such as career planning, publishing, and research. Furthermore selected students can present their current research at the doctoral poster session which is held in conjunction of a reception in their honor.

Every year AREUEA hosts a joint session with the American Economic Association (AEA) in which topics of mutual interests are presented by distinguished scholars from both organizations. The Presidential Luncheon is featured on the last full day of the conference and is hosted in honor of AREUEA’s outgoing President. In addition to the Presidential address, AREUEA recognizes the generous sponsors of the organization in addition to announcing the recipients of the George Bloom Award, Edwin Mills Best Paper Award, Real Estate Economics Best Referee Awards, and the Homer Hoyt Institutes Dissertation Award.

General Conference Information

The 46th Annual AREUEA Conference will be held in Denver, Colorado on January 7-9, 2011. Information on the 2011 conference is posted as it becomes available. Conference registration information for the 2011 meeting will be posted around mid-September once it is available from ASSA. Note, that the ASSA stopped using printed registration materials in 2008.

AREUEA paper sessions and special events will be held in the Denver Marriott City Center located at 1701 California Street.

    Doctoral Session & Reception
    Perspectives on the Future of Research in Real Estate and Urban Economics

    AREUEA will be hosting the 24th Annual Doctoral Session on Thursday January 6th. The discussion topic will be "Perspectives on the Future of Research in Real Estate and Urban Economics". Panelist include Richard Green, University of Southern California, Crocker Liu, Cornell University and William Strange, University of Toronto the panel will be moderated by Jay Hartzell, University of Texas-Austin. The panel discussion will start at 5:00 p.m.

    Doctoral students who applied and were selected to present during the poster session will be displaying their research during the doctoral reception which is being held from 6:00-8:00 pm. Please plan on attending this event to support all of the students selected.

    The doctoral session and reception will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2011 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The poster session and doctoral reception will be held at the Denver Marriott City Center, Suite III & IV.

    We encourage all Ph.D. students to attend this insightful event.

    Hotel Reservation Info

    Paper sessions, special events such as the Presidential Luncheon and evening receptions for the upcoming January conference will be held in the Denver Marriott City Center. The hotel is located at 1701 California Street, Denver. The conference hotel will fill-up quickly so we encourage you to make your hotel reservation as quickly as possible.

    ASSA requires that you register for the conference prior to making your hotel reservation. You will receive a registration number via an email message that you will need to complete your hotel reservation.

    Note, that all hotel reservations and/or questions regarding your reservation should be directed to Experient Housing (ASSA) 1-800-974-3084 (domestic) or 1-847-996-5876 (International). AREUEA does not have access to hotel reservation information and therefore is unable to assist you with your hotel reservations.

    Register for Denver Conference

    ASSA has now opened their online registration for the upcoming January conference to be held in Denver. The registration fee for non-AEA members is $75.00, student registration is $35.00 if registered by December 1st. After December 1st and including onsite registration the fee is $125.00. You are required to register for the conference before you will be allowed to make a hotel reservation. We strongly encourage you to register for the conference as soon as possible so that you can then complete your hotel reservation.

    Note, the ASSA is no longer preparing registration packets or postcards for us to use to alert you that it is time to register and make your hotel reservation. All communication regarding registration and hotel information will now be via electronic methods only (website, email).

    All AREUEA special events and sessions will be taking place in the Denver Marriott City Center, 1701 California Street.

    All conference attendees must have an official ASSA name badge in order to attend the paper sessions and special events. (All session chairs, paper presenters and discussants must be registered.)

    Session Schedule

    Please click on the link below to preview the session schedule the date, time & room assignments have been set by ASSA for the upcoming January Conference. If you are scheduled to present a paper at the conference we ask that you submit your paper to Cinda Smith at the AREUEA office no later than December 1, 2010. The paper will be available for download for the discussants and session chairs. All presenters, chairs and discussants must be registered for the conference.

    Please note that ASSA will be providing LCD projectors in the session rooms. Computers WILL NOT be provided. If you plan on using the LCD projector you must provide your own laptop.

    Re-Thinking House Price Models

    A joint session between AEA's CSWEP Committee and AREUEA's WREN Committee will be held at the Denver Conference being held in January 2011. The session represents a collaborative effort for not only for the joint session but also for two additional sessions that CSWEP will be holding on real estate issues at the January Conference.

    Much appreciation is extended to AREUEA members, Amy Crews-Cutts, Marsha Courchane and Andrea Heuson for working with the CSWEP committee members.
