2010 Annual Conference

AREUEA’s Annual Meeting is held in January in conjunction with the meetings of the Allied Social Science Associations. AREUEA organizes twenty-three sessions during the three day conference, in which selected participants report on research in progress or recently completed. Additionally, AREUEA hosts a Doctoral Session which invited distinguished scholars share their insights and wisdom with students on topics such as career planning, publishing, and research. Furthermore selected students can present their current research at the doctoral poster session which is held in conjunction of a reception in their honor.

Every year AREUEA hosts a joint session with the American Economic Association (AEA) in which topics of mutual interests are presented by distinguished scholars from both organizations. The Presidential Luncheon is featured on the last full day of the conference and is hosted in honor of AREUEA’s outgoing President. In addition to the Presidential address, AREUEA recognizes the generous sponsors of the organization in addition to announcing the recipients of the George Bloom Award, Edwin Mills Best Paper Award, Real Estate Economics Best Referee Awards, and the Homer Hoyt Institutes Dissertation Award.

General Conference Information
The AREUEA meetings will be held in Atlanta, Georgia on January 3-5, 2010. Information on the 2010 conference will be posted as it becomes available. Conference registration materials for the 2010 meeting will be mailed at the beginning of September. Conference Announcements


Annual Membership Meeting
Evolution of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association

Pat Hendershott will present a brief review of the Evolution of AREUEA over the past 45 years during the annual membership meeting that will be held on Monday, January 4th at 4:30 in room 203 of the Hilton Atlanta. Pat will discuss how AREUEA was created in the mid-1960s and track its growth into a highly respected international association of real estate academics and researchers. Additionally, he will examine the activities of AREUEA members and their contributions to REE. As well as, present the most prolific contributors (both US and international) and the papers with the greatest impact on real estate research. Finally, he will describe how research interests have changed over time.

Please plan on attending the membership meeting – not only to see Pat’s insightful presentation but also Brent Ambrose will be reviewing the past year’s activities of the Association as well as a recap of the January 2nd Board of Directors meeting.



WREN Breakfast

The Women’s Real Estate Network (WREN) invites you to join the Networking Breakfast held Sunday, January 3 from 7:00-8:00 am in the Crystal A Room, Atlanta Hilton during the AREUEA Annual Meetings.  All members of AREUEA are eligible to participate in WREN events.  The goals of WREN are to facilitate participation and encourage accessibility in AREUEA activities by all members, with a focus on Ph.D. students, junior scholars and members new to AREUEA.  

This year’s WREN Breakfast is sponsored by Freddie Mac and Fifth Third Bank.  The theme of the breakfast is “Having a Voice in Public Policymaking,” and we have lined up a panel of three very accomplished economists who will discuss their success at blending government service and academic research: Susan Woodward, of Sand Hill Econometrics, Bob Avery from the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and Tony Sanders, George Mason University.   If you would like to attend the WREN breakfast, please R.S.V.P. to Cinda Smith (cinda@areuea.org or 866-AREUEA1) by December 18th.

Hotel Reservations

Paper sessions, special events such as the Presidential Luncheon and evening receptions for the upcoming January conference will be held in the Hilton Atlanta. We strongly encourage you to register and get your room reserved ASAP. If you are unsure of your flight times we suggest that you go ahead and make your hotel reservation and than make adjustments to your reservation once you finalize your flight times – if need be. ASSA now requires you to register for the conference prior to making your hotel reservation.



Special Event Schedule

AREUEA will be hosting several Special events during the Annual conference such as the Presidential Luncheon and evening receptions which are excellent opportunities to catch up with your colleagues! The conference hotel will be the Hilton Atlanta Hotel. The off-site reception will be held at Commerce Club located at 34 Broad Street, NW. Register for January Conference

ASSA has now opened their online registration for the upcoming January conference to be held in Atlanta. This year they are requiring that you register for the conference before you will be allowed to make a hotel reservation. Additionally, ASSA has only prepared a postcard for us to send you with the url for the online registration - registration packets will not be mailed.

All AREUEA special events and sessions will be taking place in the Hilton Atlanta Hotel.

All conference attendees must have an official ASSA name badge in order to attend the paper sessions and special events. (All session chairs, paper presenters and discussants must be registered.)



Doctoral Session & Travel Grants

The deadline for participant applications for the 23rd Annual Doctoral Session was October 19th and we are no longer accepting applications. Students who applied will be notified by email no later than October 31st regarding the status of their application. The Doctoral Session is a great venue for young scholars to introduce their research ideas to members of AREUEA and to obtain valuable feedback on their work-to-date. Travel funds are available to student participants.

The session will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The poster session and doctoral reception will be held at the Hilton Atlanta, in room "Grand Salon C". The application deadline is October 19th. We encourage all Ph.D. students to attend this insightful event.

Session Schedule

Please click on the link below to preview the session schedule the date, time & room assignments have been set by ASSA for the upcoming January Conference. Please review the day, time, and room assignments for your session. If you are scheduled to present a paper at the conference we ask that you provide your discussant and session chair a copy of your paper by December 1, 2009 to ensure adequate time for a thorough review and comment preparation for the conference. All presenters, chairs and discussants must be registered for the conference.

Please note that ASSA will be providing both overhead and LCD projectors in the session rooms. Computers WILL NOT be provided. If you plan on using the LCD projector you must provide your own laptop.
