2019 AREUEA-ASSA Conference

AREUEA’s January Meeting is held in conjunction with the meetings of the Allied Social Science Associations (ASSA). The ASSA conference is held in conjunction with approximately 55 associations in related disciplines over a three-day period. Average full attendance for the conference is over 13,000 attendees.

AREUEA organizes twenty-three sessions during the three-day conference, in which selected participants report on research in progress or recently completed. The topical focus of the conference sessions will include theoretical, empirical, and policy research in real estate economics, real estate finance, and urban economics. Additionally, AREUEA hosts a Doctoral Session which invited distinguished scholars share their insights and wisdom with students on topics such as career planning, publishing, and research. Furthermore selected students can present their current research at the doctoral poster session which is held in conjunction of a reception in their honor.

Each year AREUEA hosts a joint session with the American Economic Association (AEA) and a joint session with the American Finance Association (AFA) in which topics of mutual interests are presented by distinguished scholars from both organizations. The Presidential Luncheon is featured on the last full day of the conference and is hosted in honor of AREUEA’s outgoing President. In addition to the Presidential address, AREUEA recognizes the generous sponsors of the organization and announces the recipients of the George Bloom Award, Edwin Mills Best Paper Award, Real Estate Economics Best Referee Awards, and the Homer Hoyt Institute Dissertation Award.

General Conference Information

The 54th AREUEA-ASSA Conference will be held in Atlanta, Georgia January 4-6, 2019. Please note that the conference for 2019 will be a Friday, Saturday, Sunday conference with the AREUEA Board Meeting Thursday, January 3, 2019.

Information on the 2019 conference is posted as it becomes available. Conference registration information for the 2019 conference will be posted around mid-September, once it is available from the ASSA.

Conference Announcements


Register for the 2019 Atlanta Conference

Registration for the 2019 AREUEA-ASSA Conference in Atlanta, GA will open on Wednesday, September 12 at 11:00 am ET / 10:00 am CT. Please visit the ASSA Conference website for updated and additional registration information.

If registered by December 3, 2018 the registration fee is $75.00. After December 3rd (online only), the fee for registration is $135.00. Spouses or guests wishing to attend any of the meetings may register by December 3rd for $35.00. After December 3rd and on-site, their registration fee is $55.00. Additional fees for the AREUEA Presidential Luncheon are $70.00 per person.

You are required to register for the conference before you will be allowed to make a hotel reservation. We strongly encourage you to register for the conference as soon as registration opens so that you can then complete your hotel reservation. Space in the AREUEA conference hotel is limited.

Please Note: All communication regarding registration should be directed to ASSA and all hotel information should be directed to the booking agent.

All AREUEA special events and sessions will be taking place in the Hilton Atlanta, 255 Courtland Street, NE, Atlanta, GA 30303. All conference attendees must have an official ASSA name badge in order to attend the paper sessions and special events. (All session chairs, paper presenters and discussants must be registered.)



Hotel Reservation Info

All AREUEA paper sessions, special events such as the Presidential Luncheon and evening receptions for the upcoming January conference will be held in the Hilton Atlanta, The hotel is located at 255 Courtland Street, NE, Atlanta, GA 30303. Rooms are limited and the conference hotel will fill-up quickly, so we encourage you to register for the conference and make your hotel reservation as soon as possible.

ASSA requires that you register for the conference prior to making your hotel reservation. You will receive a confirmation number during registration, which you will need to complete your hotel reservation. Please visit the ASSA Conference website for registration and hotel information.

Please note, all hotel reservation and/or questions regarding your reservation should be directed to the booking agent. AREUEA does not have access to hotel reservation information and therefore is unable to assist you with your hotel reservation.



Airport/Hotel Transportation

There are a number of options available to get to Hilton Atlanta hotel from the Atlanta Airport.

The beautiful Hilton Atlanta is located in the heart of Downtown Atlanta, and is within one mile of renowned attractions and premier venues. The hotel is close to the interstate and MARTA rapid transit for convenient accessibility to and from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and surrounding neighborhoods. Rideshare options are available such as Uber, Lyft, etc. beginning around $20 and up. Taxis and other ground transportation options are available onsite for your convenience.



Session Schedule

Please click on the link below to preview the AREUEA session schedule. The date, time, and room assignments are set by ASSA for the upcoming January Conference. If you are scheduled to present a paper at the conference we ask that you submit your final paper (should you have any changes to your original paper submission) to the AREUEA office, via email at areuea@travelink.com, no later than November 30, 2018. All conference papers will be linked to the program by November 30 and made available for download for discussants, session chairs, and participants.

All presenters, chairs and discussants must be registered for the conference.

Please note that ASSA will be providing LCD projectors in the session rooms. Computers WILL NOT be provided. If you plan on using the LCD projector you must provide your own laptop.

2019 AREUEA-ASSA Conference

AREUEA invites you to submit a paper for the 54th AREUEA Conference held in conjunction with the Allied Social Science Association (ASSA) meetings. This conference will take place January 4-6, 2019, in Atlanta, Georgia.
