2017 International Conference

Held for the first time in 1992, AREUEA's annual International Conference over the years has become the leading conference to address global developments in international topics that affect real estate and urban economics. AREUEA membership now include individuals and libraries from over 45 countries around the world.

For information about previous International conferences, please see the conference archive section.

General Conference Information

The American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association (AREUEA) is pleased to announce the 2017 annual international conference will be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. All plenary and parallel sessions will be held on July 4 – 5, the welcome reception takes place at July 3. Note that the European Real Estate Society (ERES) conference will be held in Delft from June 28 to July 1, which provides a good opportunity to visit both conferences.

Schiphol airport is one of the main transport hubs in Europe. It facilitates about 55 million passengers a year travelling all over the world. From personal experience, we can say that this airport is one of the most clear cut, easy to reach airports. It is only 30 minutes away from the city center of Amsterdam (by cab or train). For those who want to attend the ERES conference, Rotterdam Airport may be more suitable. Travel time between Amsterdam and Delft is about 1 hour.

The international AREUEA 2017 conference will be organized by the Real Estate Group within the Finance Department of the Amsterdam Business School (ABS), University of Amsterdam. The conference venue (C-building) is close to the Amsterdam Business School at the Roeterseiland (see below).

For participants who need a visa in order to attend the conference, please follow the general EU regulations. A formal letter of invitation is available upon request. For more information or questions contact the local organizing committee areuea-abs@uva.nl or visit our website at www.areuea-amsterdam2017.com.

We look forward to seeing you in Amsterdam.

Location and Transportation

The quickest way to get from Schiphol Airport to your hotel is to catch a train to Amsterdam Central Station. You can buy tickets either at the ticket desk in the main hallway or at the yellow machines (with a debit card). The way to the train station is clearly marked once you are in the arrivals area. Schiphol airport is only 30 minutes away from the city center of Amsterdam (by cab or train).

Direct trains to Amsterdam Central Station run every 10 to 15 minutes. The trip takes about 15 minutes. The person at the ticket desk can inform you from which platform to take the train (trains to Amsterdam Central leave generally from platform 3).

From Amsterdam Central Station to your hotel (depending on the location) you can either walk or take a tram or a cab (it should cost around 15-20 Euros). You can easily plan your route by tram on www.9292.nl/en. Tickets can be bought with cash in the tram from the driver or at the GVB blue machines with a debit card in the train station.

Close to the business school & conference venue are several trams and metro stops. The closest metro stop is ‘weesperplein’ (metro 51, 54 53). From there it is about a 5 minute walk to the conference venue (if you walk very slowly). Tram 14 & 9 stop at Plantage Kerklaan (close to the zoo and again a 5 minute walk from the conference venue). Tram 10 & 7 stop at weesperplein. These metro’s and trams also provide easy access to Amsterdam Central Station. Tickets for the tram can be bought directly inside of the tram. Tickets for the metro at onsite ticket machines.
